The lettering designs in this collection by Katsumi Tsuji, a graphic designer active during the Taishō and Shōwa periods, appear fresh and new no matter how old they are.
Each of the letters in this collection was hand-drawn. These lettering designs, also known as calligraphy, differ from the typefaces that are stored as digital data on computers.
All the letter designs, which were created by the graphic designer to complement words and sentences or to suit specific print media, were originally published in 1934 in ‘A Collection of Contemporary Letter Designs’.
